“Including Samuel” was a powerful documentary that showed me an honest look at the lives of individuals with disabilities and what their families deal with everyday in trying to make sure their family members, are given the best education available and opportunities to achieve their dreams. One of the key things from this video that I took away is that every school does things differently and every family and students wants and needs different supports and a lot of support can come from new technology. I really like how Samuels father allowed us not only into his life in school but also into Samuels’s life at home and in the community. I loved the scenes when he was able just to be a little brother and bug his older brother.
On a technology side this documentary allowed me to see how much technology can make the lives of individuals easier. When Samuel was playing T-ball on his modified walker I was very impressed with how far we have come. All of the bikes, walkers, treadmill, music machine and even the crayon holder are adapted with new technologies that make it easier for Samuel to join in his community.
